I have been obsessed with ancient Egyptian civilization for my entire life - IMAGINE MY DELIGHT when I was able to source these authentic, 2500 year old (dated between 664-333 BC) Egyptian beads. The material is “faience” which is early earthenware ceramic - colored with various minerals. According to www.worldhistory.org - “The Egyptian word for faience was tjehenet which means 'gleaming' or 'shining' and the faience was thought to reflect the light of immortality.”
The Egyptian word for luck was “sha”, and beads were called “sha sha’s”. Mummies were often entombed wearing thousands of beads. They played a very important role in the society of this ancient, fascinating civilization.
Choose from either black or white - the center bead is Amber (not ancient Egyptian - only the pastel beads surrounded the Amber are the faience), and please note - after the originals are sold, these necklaces will be made to order. There was so much anticipation for these ancient Egyptian beads that I want to ensure as many people can experience some of this wonder as possible.
Length is approx. 17-18”.
