"I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living."
- Anaïs Nin

On Creating

My name is Emily Suzanne Rayow, and I have been creating for as long as I have been alive.
My early days found me painting wild expressionistic artworks. Eventually this deep love of stones led me to the calling of jewelry-making, which has now intersected with a journey into naturally dyeing fabrics and pigment making.
Art in any form has for ever seemed my reason for inhabitance here, and remains my supreme joy in life.. be it paint on the fingertips, or jewels around the neck.

What is a Sea Ox…?

I grew up in Florida, in love with the sea. I dreamt of meeting mythical oceanic creatures, awakened from centuries of slumber to find me.. Sea Ox is also a reference to my maiden name, Cox, and the decades of spelling it out audibly ("See-Oh-Ex") in order to avoid inappropriate misspellings. So, part homage, part humor.

A Way to Wear the Earth

My love for stones and jewelry came from both my mother & my grandmother. A desire to decorate myself wildly emerged at a young age.

This rock & crystal obsession feels lifelong, as well. As a child, I was fascinated by the Native American and Egyptian cultures, and their use of stone jewelry & accessories in all aspects of life. It has signified so much more than superficial decoration in countless cultures, and I've always connected with that.

Art = Life

My goal, really, is to affect as many aspects of life with an artistic a sensibility as possible. Make it beautiful. Make it unique. Make it bold.

Wear that crystal, and feel the energy entering your pores. Meditate on it. Allow it to empower you, enliven you. Feel your third eye.. feel your feet sinking into the soil. Remember you are alive, stunningly & breathtakingly - and accessorize accordingly.

Me, now

You can find me these days roaming the woods or making crafts with my two beautiful children, tending an out-of-control garden, working on seven million projects at once in my newly renovated studio, or stealing moments with my tattooer husband. We reside in the middle of nowhere, upstate NY, and wouldn't have it any other way. <3
